The Spore Initiative: Necroproximal

A Workshop that took place in November of 2023 at The Spore Initiative in Berlin, Germany

For the longest of times, blackened bodies have been carriers of loss. Loss through separation; loss through crossings; loss through forcings; loss through cuttings, loss through disappearances; loss through disconnections and one of the weightiest losses to bear has been the loss of the ability to determine for ourselves how to grieve for our losses.

Recognising loss brings us close to death
Being close to death invokes grieving.
Let us grieve together and look death in the face and so fear death,
and ourselves, no more!

We acknowledge the multiple expressions of the sensuality of our bodies and we mourn what has become embedded within them. This moves us to be attentive of each and every articulation of the life within us – how we move our bodies, how we feel our bodies feeling earth, feeling grief, how our bodies seek to attend to its hunger for real nourishment.
