Food Sovereignty Looking at Itself
Tuesday 10 November, 2015
What if we had to develop a set of ground rules that facilitated our travelling together whilst working on Food Sovereignty as an idea which we can embrace to hold the Earth together under our shared stewardship?
What would it look like, feel like, sound like?
How can we all ensure that everyone becomes a guardian of these codes, how would they be adopted by everyone? How can each person connect with every other, celebrating difference whilst holding each ones relationship with the Earth as a common trust.
Here are some to start us off. How would you contribute to these codes, adapt and adopt them so we can make genuine steps towards shared stewardship of this one planet that is depending upon us but which much more we are dependent upon.
- Food sovereignty is for everyone: from the baby in the womb who needs healthy nutrients to develop well to the aging matriarch who has a right to tend her vegetable patch or collect food from nature.
- We all have a right to optimal health through the food we eat and the water we drink and the relationships we have with the Earth
- Everywhere has a local which must be respected
- Food is not limited to what goes down our throats but encompasses all that nurtures and nourishes us whilst we live
- Earth is connected: damage anywhere brings a threat of damage everywhere
- Everyone has values within their culture which respects nature and nurture, we have a responsibility to find the harmony between everyone’s values
- Justice, truth and balance are necessary foundations for right and sustainable living on Earth
- If we can acknowledge where we have made mistakes in the past we provide openings for better relationships in the present and in the future.
- We all have the responsibility to nurture Earth as we have been nurtured by the Earth.
Peace and Blessings

Thanks Mama D. Will read with interest and digest. 🙂 Hope you’re well. Hope to speak to you soon for a proper catchup.
Indeed! Let’s catch up soon 🙂
Yes, thank you Mama D.
I will read more when I can; I’ve had a look, and at the other articles/films.
It is SO fundamentally important that we humans are connected to the growing of the food that nourishes us.
We buy vegetables and fruit from our local farm shop- a real one where they’re grown without chemicals and are a reasonable price. The growers work so hard to make a living. But they create a good life for themselves and the community around them – it’s a joyful, hard working place, with a sense of belonging, to those people who choose to shop there and get to know the farmers. There should be more places like this.
